about steele farm

first settled by israel steele in the 1850's, steele farm is nestled in the heart of vermont's green mountains in the small town of roxbury.  steele farm is a unique 80 acre property surround by thousands of acres of state forest and lies within 45 minutes of just about anything you would want to do, visit, eat, or experience while in vermont.  an authentic setting of mountains, trails, brooks, fields and small town central vermont gives a glimpse back to a simpler way of life.  

steele farm now is home to three generations of the guiffre family.  jon and cathy are your hosts and reside on the property with their two children and dog, lola.  jon's mother dorothy also lives on the property.  it is an outdoor enthusiast's ideal setting with fields, 700 vertical feet of mountain, a stream, pond, nordic and alpine ski trails, ball field, and professionally lanscaped gardens.  the surrounding area is full of hidden swimming holes, fantastic eateries, and amazing outdoor adventure opportunities.  it also is set high in the mountains on a secluded back road if peace and quiet is the call to order.

your hosts

jon is your primary contact during your visit.  he is the owner of allied building contractors, a design build general contracting company and has built or renovated all the buildings, trails, and adventures on the property.  a 1996 graduate of the university of vermont, jon met cathy in roxbury 20 years ago and eventually settled at steele farm to raise their family.

cathy is super mom of two as well as a middle school math teacher.  she met jon coaching soccer 20 years ago and left her native england and a promising soccer career to start her life in the states.  cathy can make a proper cup of tea and welcomes discussions about who will win the premiership.

lola joined the family as a puppy in 2017.  a rescue from a shelter in louisiana, lola has adpated to vermont's climate well and loves the snow.  she is a cross between a lab and a plott hound and loves to play with canine guests.  always up for a hike or romp through the woods, lola is a terrifc canine ambassador for your dog.
